Custom Made Kid™ is twofold: a children's book and a non-profit designed to support the growth of families. Let me explain:
THE BOOK PROJECT
Custom Made Kid™ is a children's book written to explain how God is intimately and lovingly involved in the “design” of children and families, whether biological or adoptive. As an adoptive Mom and a writer, I wanted to explain to my daughter, in terms she and other children could understand, the concept of Psalms 139.
The book (and the Custom Made Kid™ concept in general) isn't about perfect kids, perfect people or perfect families. It's about a perfect God who knows what is best for each of us. Also, I couldn't shake the idea that adopted children would be able to clearly understand the idea of being "custom made” by God.
THE NON-PROFIT
This dream that started out as a few words scratched on a piece of notebook paper continued to grow and take shape and, before long, God had laid it on my heart to give 20% of the net proceeds from the book directly into a non-profit supporting adoption. Thus, the Custom Made Kid™ Foundation was born with the goal of supporting families who are in the process of pursuing International or Domestic adoption. If a family has the desire to adopt, we don't want a child to get "left behind" just because they might not have the immediate funds available.
The Custom Made Kid™ Foundation will help strategically raise adoption awareness and support adopting families through sharing about the Custom Made Kid™ story, partnering with families to help with fundraising and by having strategic "Impact Days" in the local community.
THE DREAM
Combine the two dreams - a children's book and a foundation specifically designed to support the growth of families - and there you have it. A children's book with REAL Super Powers.
